ABOUT HANDY HANDS ELECTRICAL

Sixteen Years in the Trade, One Very Specific Speciality

Handy Hands Electrical Pty Ltd is an off-grid power business built out of a general electrical contracting career, which is exactly why the systems we install hold up on real sites.

HOW WE GOT HERE

The Off-Grid Work Found Us

Boden Snell started in the trade sixteen years ago and did what most sparkies do: domestic work, then commercial, then industrial, then air conditioning and data and communications cabling. Solar came along as it went from a novelty to a default. The work spread across south-east Queensland and then further out, because the interesting jobs kept being the ones a long way from town.

Somewhere in the middle of that, the questions changed. Farmers stopped asking for another shed circuit and started asking what it would take to stop paying the supply charge altogether. Commercial clients on the edge of the network wanted to know why their fixed costs kept climbing when their consumption hadn't moved. Island property owners wanted something better than a diesel generator that needed fuel barged in every month.

Those are all the same question, and the answer is a properly engineered off-grid system: not a residential solar kit with an extra battery bolted on, but a design built around measured loads, real autonomy figures, and the certification a stand-alone installation is legally required to carry.

Handy Hands Electrical Pty Ltd was registered in February 2025 to do that work as a company rather than as a bloke with a ute. The licence, the ABN, the compliance paperwork and the insurance all sit behind the name now. The way the work gets done hasn't changed: you talk to the person who designs your system, and he's the person who installs it.

“The best hands in the business.”

THE PERSON BEHIND IT

Boden Snell, Founder and Licensed Electrical Contractor

Sixteen years across domestic, commercial and industrial work, air conditioning, data and communications, solar, and every off-grid application that comes with it. Boden holds QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 1503588 and does the site assessments and system designs himself.

He is also the one who turns up. On a Handy Hands job, the person who quoted it is the person on the tools, which is the main reason clients on remote and island sites keep calling back: there is nobody else to hand the problem to.

LICENSING AND COMPLIANCE

Licensed, Insured, and Every Job Certified

Handy Hands Electrical Pty Ltd holds QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 1503588, and every piece of installation work is handed over with a Certificate of Testing and Compliance, the document Queensland law requires for electrical installation work. Work carried out on existing equipment instead gets a Certificate of Testing and Safety. Both are issued to you, and a copy is kept on file.

Licensing is administered by the Electrical Safety Office, part of WorkSafe Queensland, under the Electrical Safety Act 2002. You can check Boden's licence against the public register at any time.

OUR COMMITMENTS

Four Things We Do That You Can Hold Us To

We Measure Before We Quote

No off-grid design leaves this office based on a guess at your usage. We come to site, log your real loads, and size the system against what your equipment actually draws when it starts up.

The Written Quote Is the Price

Panels, inverter, battery capacity, mounting, cabling, commissioning and certification: itemised, fixed, in writing, before anything gets ordered. Variations only happen if you change the scope.

A Working Site Never Goes Dark

Conversions get staged so production, stock, irrigation or refrigeration keeps running through the changeover. On a dairy or a cool room, that matters more than anything else we do.

We Do Not Leave Without the Certificates

Off-grid installations carry documentation obligations that get skipped by installers who don't do them often. Ours are complete and handed over before we drive out the gate.

COVERAGE

The Map Is Drawn Around the Work

Off-grid jobs are where the grid isn't, which makes a 30-kilometre service radius useless. We work right through Queensland, into northern New South Wales, and out to most of the islands off the east coast, including years of repeat work on Moreton Island and a fair amount on Daydream Island.

GIVING BACK

Heritage Rail and Junior Rugby

Handy Hands Electrical does charity electrical work on heritage rail: the kind of restoration job where the wiring has to be safe and compliant without wrecking what makes the thing worth restoring. It's slow, fiddly and completely unpaid, which is roughly the definition of a good weekend.

Closer to home, the company sponsors a junior rugby club in Brisbane. Junior sport runs on the businesses that put their name on the fence, and this one is happy to be one of them.

THE DIFFERENCE

What Usually Goes Wrong, and What We Do Instead

The common experience
Working with Handy Hands

Quoted by a salesperson, installed by a subcontractor
Quoted, designed and installed by the same licensed contractor
Whole site shut down during the changeover
Staged installation so production, irrigation and refrigeration keep running
Remote job needs a second trip for one missing part

One trade on site, three more to organise
Eleven services under one licence: solar, aircon, data, industrial and the rest
