STAND-ALONE POWER & BATTERIES

Off-Grid & Solar Systems

How off-grid systems operate, handle wet weather, and support working agricultural machinery.

An off-grid system generates, stores, and delivers all of a property’s electricity without any connection to the mains grid. Solar panels generate power, a lithium battery bank stores it, and off-grid inverter-chargers convert that energy into continuous 230V or 415V power. Working properties also integrate an auto-starting diesel generator as an automated backup during prolonged cloudy weather.

Cost is determined by your daily kilowatt-hour consumption, your required days of autonomy, and your peak motor starting surges. Because these three variables vary dramatically between properties, we conduct an on-site load assessment before issuing a fixed, itemised quote.

Yes, provided the system is engineered against measured peak electrical loads rather than residential averages. Deep-well bore pumps, cold rooms, workshop welders, and packing sheds draw heavy starting surges. We calculate motor inrush currents and size inverters, variable speed drives, and battery storage accordingly.

Systems are designed with a specific days-of-autonomy window, typically 1.5 to 2.5 days of essential consumption. When extended rain depletes battery reserves to a preset threshold, the system automatically signals an integrated diesel generator to start, power the property, and recharge batteries.

Off-grid completely disconnects from the grid, ending quarterly supply charges. Hybrid maintains the grid connection as a backup while cycling battery power to minimise daytime and evening import. Standard grid-connected solar reduces daytime bills but provides zero power during network blackouts.

Frequently yes. Solar panels often have many years of operational life remaining, though older grid-tied inverters cannot be reused because off-grid inverters perform fundamentally different power conversion and battery management roles. We test existing panels and incorporate them where viable.

Pricing, Quotes & Site Assessments

Our fixed quoting policy, itemised specifications, and site assessment process.

For small domestic electrical jobs, we can usually provide an immediate estimate. For stand-alone power systems, a phone estimate is pure guesswork. Two properties with identical quarterly bills can require completely different inverter and battery setups depending on motor starting spikes and overnight loads.

Yes. Our initial site inspection, load profile review, and written proposal carry no cost and no obligation. If our load analysis shows that staying connected to the grid is more economical for your circumstances, we will tell you directly.

Yes. Handy Hands Electrical quotes are fixed, written, and fully itemised. Equipment, mounting hardware, trenching, electrical switchgear, commissioning, and compliance certification are listed separately. Variations only occur if you choose to alter the project scope in writing.

Differences typically stem from equipment quality, realistic load sizing, and compliance. We specify tier-one hardware rated for high Queensland ambient temperatures, size battery banks for usable rather than nominal capacity, and include all statutory certification and safety switchgear.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program provides an upfront point-of-sale discount through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) on eligible battery systems. Note that the older Queensland state Battery Booster program closed in May 2024; the federal scheme is the sole active program.

AVAILABILITY & CALL-OUTS

Booking, Hours & Response Times

Emergency response windows, planned works, and operating procedures.

Our emergency electrical attendance operates from 6:00 AM to midnight, seven days a week. Scheduled installations, solar maintenance, and switchboard upgrades are booked during regular trade business hours.

Across Ipswich, western Brisbane, the Lockyer Valley, and the Scenic Rim, urgent attendance is typically provided same-day within our 6:00 AM to midnight window. For regional and island locations, attendance is scheduled upon enquiry.

Attendance fees are always clearly stated and agreed before a technician is dispatched. Fault diagnosis and subsequent repairs are quoted on-site, and no chargeable repair work commences without your explicit approval.

Yes. We routinely coordinate around dairy milking shifts, irrigation cycles, retail trading hours, and island resort guest transfers to minimise operational downtime.

REGULATORY ASSURANCE

Licensing, Compliance & Warranty

Our electrical contractor licences, statutory testing certificates, and warranty coverage.

Yes. Handy Hands Electrical Pty Ltd holds Queensland Electrical Contractor Licence 1503588, operates under ABN 84 684 420 184, and carries comprehensive public liability insurance.

Yes. For all electrical installation work, our licensed electricians issue an official Queensland Certificate of Testing and Compliance. This legal document validates that the work complies with AS/NZS 3000 and relevant Australian Standards for your records and insurer.

Managing director Boden Snell has worked as a qualified electrician for sixteen years across residential, industrial, and off-grid sectors. Handy Hands Electrical Pty Ltd was formally incorporated to provide dedicated stand-alone power and electrical contracting across Queensland.

We provide a comprehensive warranty on our trade workmanship. Equipment components (inverters, solar panels, and battery storage modules) are protected by their respective manufacturer warranties, which are itemised in your written handover documentation.

REGIONAL SERVICE FOOTPRINT
